A solid PVA bag rig is a short rig packed, together with the hook, into a water-soluble PVA bag filled with pellets or groundbait. The bag protects the rig on the cast and leaves a tight pile of bait around the hook. These rigs also work with a method feeder.
With a solid bag, the rig, the hook and often the lead go inside the bag. Fill it with small pellets or fine groundbait, compress it tightly and tie it off. As the bag melts, the rig lies straight in the middle of a small pile of bait.
The rig needs to be short, around 10 cm, to fit in the bag. A fairly stiff, strong hooklink keeps the hook in the right position.
Use only dry, PVA-friendly baits, as anything wet will melt the bag before you cast. The rig is especially effective over weed, where a standard rig can be hidden. Tie bags in advance so recasting is quick.
