In carp fishing, bait and baiting often make more difference than any other part of your kit. In this category you will find boilies, hookbaits, pellets and particles, groundbait, mixes and liquids, and artificial hookbaits. From the range you can match your free offerings and hookbait to the same flavour, or make them deliberately stand apart.
Boilies are the staple carp bait. Shelf-life boilies keep at room temperature and are easy to carry, while freezer and fresh boilies are stored cold and break down faster in the water, releasing their attraction more quickly. Boilies are used both on the hook and as free offerings.
Hookbaits stand out from the bed of bait. A pop-up floats and lifts the hookbait off the bottom on the rig, while a wafter sinks slowly and settles gently. A balanced hookbait behaves naturally, so a feeding carp sucks it in without hesitation and the hook has a better chance of taking hold.
Pellets and particles form the backbone of your baiting. Carp and halibut pellets break down and release oils and attraction, micro pellets suit PVA bags and method feeding, and tiger nuts, seeds and grains hold fish in the swim for a long time. Remember that dry particles must always be properly soaked and cooked before use, both for the fish and for your results.
Groundbait, stick mix and spod mix bind your baiting together and create an attractive cloud in the water. Glugs, liquid foods and oils boost the hookbait and the smell of your baiting, especially in cold water when fish feed less actively.
Artificial hookbaits such as imitation corn, artificial boilies, pellets and maggots do not break down and cannot be eaten by small fish or crayfish. They work on their own or combined with a real bait, for example as a buoyant topper on a bottom bait.
