Why carry a stripper and a knot puller?

With coated hooklinks the coating is often removed just behind the hook to create a supple hinge that lets the bait behave naturally. A stripper takes the coating off cleanly without fraying or weakening the braid.

Without one, most anglers strip the coating with their teeth or nails, which is slow and inconsistent. A tool gives you the same length of stripped section every time, so your rigs come out identical.

A knot puller lets you bed down hook, loop and leadcore knots without the line cutting into your fingers. A properly tightened knot will not slip under pressure, which matters most with heavy shock leaders and stiff hooklink materials.
