When should you use floss or a pellet band?

Hard halibut pellets often split when drilled, so a pellet band is usually the better option. Thread the band onto the hair loop, push the pellet into it and it stays put all session.

Choose the band to suit the pellet: too loose and the bait flies off on the cast, too tight and it can crack the pellet. Keep a couple of sizes in the box if you use more than one pellet size.

Bait floss is a fine thread for tying particles, nuts and soft baits onto the hair when a needle would tear them. It is also useful for tying two baits together or quickly securing a piece of PVA foam.
