Whips
Whips are light, reel-less telescopic poles with the line attached straight to the tip. They are made for speed fishing for small fish such as roach, bleak and perch close to the bank.

A whip is the competition version of a telescopic pole: slim, stiff and very light. The line is attached to the tip with a connector and no elastic, and fish are swung straight to hand.
Whips are typically fished at 3-8 metres. A short 4-5 m whip is the fastest when fish are close, while a longer one is needed further out or in deeper water.
The line is usually rod length or slightly shorter, so fish can be swung in under control.
With no elastic to cushion the fight, fine hooklengths and small hooks are the rule and the target is small fish. A good whip has a sensitive tip but a stiff enough base for a fast strike.
