Competition, commercial or margin pole?

A competition pole is long, stiff and light, so you can hold it all day and the float stays exactly in place even in a breeze. In matches and in general silverfish angling, the extra length also lets you fish more than one line and rotate between them.

A commercial pole is designed for commercial fisheries, where carp and other big fish are regular catches. It takes heavier elastics and higher loads without complaint, which gives you confidence when a big fish heads for snags.

A margin pole is short and strong. It is used right along the bank, where big fish often come in to feed, especially towards the evening.
