The strength of pole elastic is chosen to suit your target fish and hooklength. A light elastic suits small silverfish and fine hooklengths, while a heavier one is for bream, tench and carp. Hollow elastic stretches a long way and very smoothly, and many anglers prefer it for bigger fish in particular.
At the tip, the elastic is tied to a connector that your rig attaches to. A bush protects the tip of the pole and gives the elastic a smooth exit, and the bung at the bottom of the kit holds the elastic in place and sets its tension.
A puller bead lets you draw the elastic out through the side of the kit and increase its tension during the fight. That way you can get a fish under control faster without stepping up to a heavier elastic.
Check your elastic regularly, because a worn one can snap mid-fight. Elastic lubricant and a fresh bush keep the setup running smoothly for a long time.
