Braid as a main line suits carp fishing at long range or wherever you want instant bite indication. Zero stretch transmits the slightest movement to the alarm, and the thin diameter flies through the rings on the cast. These braids are made specifically for carp fishing.

Braid has two big advantages: zero stretch and a thin diameter. Bites at range register on the alarm instantly, and the thinner line casts further and is less affected by a crosswind.
No stretch also means the cushioning in the fight comes from the rod and the reel drag. Set the drag a little lighter than with mono and use a forgiving rod so the hook does not pull close to the bank.
Always tie a shock leader ahead of braid when casting heavy leads. Check the fishery rules too, as some carp waters restrict braid as a main line. Spool braid under tension so it does not bed into the lower layers during a fight.
