Leadcore

Leadcore is a braided leader material with a lead wire running through its core. It pins the line in front of the rig to the bottom, so fish do not bump into it over the baited area. This group covers leadcore on spools for tying your own leaders.

How to use leadcore

Leadcore leaders are usually 60 to 100 cm long. Strip the lead core from the ends and splice the braid back into itself to form a strong loop with no knot. You will need a splicing needle.

Leadcore follows the contours of the bottom and resists abrasion, which helps over gravel bars and mussel beds. Choose the colour to suit the bottom: brown for silt and gravel, green or black for weed and dark lake beds.

Always fish leadcore in a safe set-up where the lead can drop or slide off if the line breaks. Some fisheries ban leadcore, so check the rules before you fish. A lead-free leader is a good alternative on those waters.
