Slow pitch rods are built for slow jigging, where the jig is lifted with short strokes and allowed to flutter freely back down. You will find models for both multiplier and spinning reels. They suit cod, pollock and other fish feeding close to the bottom in deep water.
A slow pitch rod is short, usually around 1.9 to 2 metres, and its parabolic action does much of the work. The blank loads with each turn of the reel handle and, as it recovers, kicks the jig upwards so it flutters back down. That fall is when most bites come.
The key choice is jig weight. Pick a rod whose rated range puts your usual jigs in the middle. In moderate depth and gentle tide a 100-150 g rod is enough, while deep water and strong current call for 200-300 g jigs and a rod matched to them.
Overhead models paired with a multiplier are the norm, giving precise control of line release and retrieve. A spinning version suits anglers who also want to cast the jig away from the boat.
Always fish braid so the jig's movement is transmitted from depth.
