Trolling & Big Game Rods

Trolling, stand-up or big game rod?

Trolling rods fish from the boat's rod holders while lures are towed behind the boat. The rod has to cope with a constant load and show the strike clearly when a fish takes the lure.

Stand-up rods are short, powerful rods used to fight fish standing up with a fighting belt and harness. The short length gives the angler good leverage and makes a long fight easier to manage.

Big game rods often have roller guides that reduce line friction under heavy load, and a heavy butt that fits the gimbal of a fighting chair or belt. They are designed for tuna, marlin and other large ocean species.

Choose the rod by line class and pair it with a reel from the same class. When rod, reel and line are in balance, you can use the full drag without the tackle letting you down. Rinse the guides, rollers and reel seat in fresh water after every trip so salt does not seize the moving parts.
