What are coarse fishing pliers used for?

Coarse pliers are smaller and lighter than sea or predator pliers. Narrow jaws grip shot, snaps and small hooks precisely, and they slip easily into a waistcoat pocket.

Use them to pinch split shot onto the line and open it again when you change the shotting pattern on a float rig. The jaws also flatten barbs when you fish barbless.

Check the material and the cutter. Stainless steel copes with damp, and a built-in cutter trims line and thin wire.

Pinch shot gently, because too much pressure damages fine line and weakens it.
