Traditional Telescopic Pole Sets

A traditional pole set includes a reel-less telescopic pole and the basic tackle to go with it, such as line, float and hooks. It gets you fishing for perch, roach and bream from cottage shores, jetties and boats.

What should a pole set include?

A good pole set contains everything you need for a first trip: pole, line, float, shot and a few hooks. A ready-made float rig is a big help if float fishing is new to you.

Choose the pole length to suit where you fish. A 3-4 m pole is right for jetties and boats, while 5 m reaches the reed edge from the bank.

Set the float so the bait sits just off the bottom. A worm is the classic perch bait, while maggots or paste work well for roach and bream.

Once the first fish are in, it is easy to add floats and hooks in other sizes.
