Match & Float Groundbait

How should you feed a float groundbait?

The job of a float mix is to draw fish in and keep them near the hook without filling them up. A cloudy mix that breaks down as it falls is often better than a heavy, tight ball.

Start with a few balls and then top up little and often. A hard-squeezed ball reaches the bottom, while a loose one breaks up in the upper layers and pulls fish higher.

Roach mixes tend to be light and sweet, bream mixes darker and richer. Add maggots or particles if you want to hold bigger fish.

Dampen the mix lightly and let it stand before balling up.
