Worms and maggots are among the most reliable baits in coarse fishing. They will catch perch, roach, bream and almost every other species, and maggots can also be loose fed around the hookbait to keep fish interested.
Corn, doughs and pastes are good baits when you want to avoid small fish and target bigger ones such as bream, tench and carp. Dough can be moulded around the hook or into a method mix, and corn is easy to fish on the hook or on a hair.
Particles and seeds, hemp being a classic example, are feed baits. Small seeds keep fish digging around on the bottom for a long time, so the swim stays active. Dry particles need to be soaked and cooked before use, which is an important safety step for the fish.
Keep live baits cool and out of the sun, and they will stay lively for the whole session. A lid with small holes keeps maggots in the box and lets air in.
