Big pit reels are the largest carp reels, built for reaching distant swims on big lakes and reservoirs. Their wide, shallow spools let line peel off with minimal friction, adding real distance to every cast. You will find both front drag and freespool big pits here.

The key feature is the spool profile. A long, shallow, slightly tapered spool reduces friction as line leaves the lip, so the lead flies further. Sizes 10000 to 14000 are the norm and hold 300 metres of 0.30-0.35 mm mono with ease.
A big pit is heavier than a compact reel, but on a 12 or 13 ft rod the extra weight balances the outfit nicely. Go for a front drag model if you want a simple, robust reel, or a freespool version if you fish off a rod pod with bite alarms.
Also check line retrieved per turn of the handle. A large spool picks up line quickly, which makes winding in and recasting at range far less of a chore. A spare spool lets you switch between mono and braid in minutes.
