Alarm set or single bite alarm?

An alarm set usually contains two or more alarms and a wireless receiver that are matched to each other out of the box. It is an easy way to get started when you fish with more than one rod. A single alarm is the right choice when you add a rod to your setup or replace one that has failed.

Check at least whether sensitivity, volume and tone can be adjusted. Turning down the sensitivity cuts out false bleeps in the wind and on choppy water, and a different tone on each alarm tells you instantly which rod is away.

A receiver passes the signal to you in the bivvy or in your chair, so you can keep the alarms on low volume and disturb other anglers less. In accessories you will find protective cases that shield the alarms in transit and in the rain, along with fittings and other small parts.

Check which battery type your alarms use and carry spares on long sessions, because a flat battery is usually only noticed after a missed take.
