Westin W8 Jigging Reel 40 - Arctic sea reel, designed for demanding deep-water jigging where power and controlled torque transfer are required. The robust cold-forged aluminum frame and side plates keep the structure rigid under heavy loads, maintaining precise gear alignment and power transmission. Heat-treated, helical stainless steel gears provide smooth yet efficient cranking, and 7+2 large, shielded stainless steel ball bearings enhance smoothness and durability. The intuitive lever drag system allows precise adjustment even in tough situations, and the reel is available in both right- and left-handed (RH/LH) configurations in different sizes (40/41 and 60/61).
The technical design emphasizes a rigid, cold-forged aluminum frame and tightly fitting side plates that reduce frame flex during battles. Heat-treated, helical stainless steel gears mesh precisely and withstand prolonged stress. The 7+2 shielded stainless steel ball bearings are sized large to ensure smooth rotation and long life, and the CNC-machined aluminum handle with ergonomic knobs transfers power efficiently without unnecessary strain.
Ergonomics are supported by a curved side plate that improves grip and allows the reel to be securely held in a palming grip. The lever drag system provides precise brake adjustment for strike and release moments: in size 40/41, the strike drag is approximately 1–1.2 kg and the maximum is 24 kg, while in size 60/61, the strike drag is approximately 1.5–2 kg and the maximum is 28 kg. The gear ratio of 5.8:1 combines with a retrieval rate of 100 cm/revolution (size 40/41) or 82 cm/revolution (size 60/61), offering a well-considered balance between torque and speed. Choose the size and handedness that suits you, and benefit from the confidence provided by the W8 series design for heavy vertical jigging.
Summary: A strong and rigid frame structure, precise lever drag brake, smooth power transmission, and ergonomic feel form a package that serves reliably and durably over the long term. Versatile size and handedness options, sized bearings, and a well-thought-out gear ratio make this reel a functional choice for various jigging techniques.
Recommended use: Suitable for users who value powerful braking, rigid construction, and ergonomic grip in heavier jigging and vertical techniques.
