This section covers boat rods and pirking rods for medium sea fishing from a boat. Use them for cod, coalfish, haddock and mackerel with pirks, feathers, flapper rigs or bottom rigs along the coasts of Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

Boat rods are chosen by line class or casting weight. Lighter 12-20 lb rods suit shallow water and small pirks, 20-30 lb rods are the all-rounders for Norwegian cod and coalfish, and 30-50 lb rods handle heavy rigs in deep water.
Length is usually 1.8-2.4 m. A short rod is easy to handle in a crowded boat, while a longer one keeps the line away from the hull.
Conventional reel rods suit vertical fishing, though some can take a fixed spool reel too. Check the reel seat and rings before choosing your reel.
A multi-piece travel rod fits in a suitcase for a trip to Norway.
