This section holds big game reels built for large ocean species such as tuna, marlin and big sharks. These are heavy duty lever drag and conventional reels for long fights that put drag and gearbox under real strain.

Big game reels are often rated by line class in pounds, such as 30, 50 or 80 lb. Choose the class to suit the size of fish and the rod you will use, so the whole outfit is balanced.
A lever drag and two-speed gearbox are almost standard. Low gear lifts a heavy fish from below, while high gear picks up slack fast when the fish swims towards the boat.
Harness lugs on the reel clip to a fighting harness, spreading the pull of the fish across your body.
Salt water and heavy loads take their toll, so service the reel regularly and replace worn line in good time.
