Pole Floats

Pole floats are light, sensitive floats fished directly under the tip of a pole or whip. Because the rig is under such close control, ratings can be small and bite indication extremely precise, ideal for roach, bream and skimmers on lakes, canals and commercials.

How do you choose a pole float?

Match the rating to depth and conditions. A few tenths of a gram is enough for shallow, calm water, while deeper or windy swims need a gram or more.

The body shape governs stability. A slim body suits calm, shallow water where you want a slow fall of the bait, while a rounder body with the shoulder near the top holds steady in wind and tow.

The bristle sets sensitivity and visibility. A fine bristle shows the smallest bite, while a thicker one is easier to see and supports a bigger bait such as corn or a pellet.

Keep pre-shotted pole rigs on winders so you can swap quickly on the bank.
