A light feeder rod comes into its own when fish are feeding 10-40 metres out in still or slow water. Casting weights usually top out around 30-50 g, which is plenty for a small cage feeder or light bomb.
A short picker of 2.4-3 m is handy on narrow banks and canals, while a 3.3-3.6 m rod gives better line control at range or from a high bank.
Fit the softest tip that still holds bottom: it should bend only slightly under the feeder. A rod that flexes through its length also protects fine main lines and hooklengths when a better fish turns up.
If the swim is deep, windy or flowing, step up to a stiffer rod. A light rod will not hold a heavy feeder in place or put it on the spot accurately.
