This group covers heavy shock leader line and tapered shock leaders that go in front of the main line for power casting and hard fights. They protect the line from the snap of the cast, from reefs and from the fish's mouth. Use them for surfcasting, popping, stickbait fishing and big game.

Casting a heavy lead or popper at full power puts a huge load on a thin main line for a split second. A shock leader takes that load. For surfcasting with 100-150 g leads, 0.60 to 0.80 mm leader is typical, and it should be long enough to leave several turns on the spool with the lead at casting drop.
A tapered leader narrows evenly, so the join to the main line is small and slips through the guides.
A wind-on leader is a long leader that is wound right onto the reel at the end of the fight, standard practice in big game fishing.
Check your knots after every fish.
