Why use a footplate and side tray?

A footplate gives you a stable base when the bank is sloping, soft or rocky. It usually attaches to the front of the seatbox, and adjustable legs bring it level. A larger platform works as a full working surface with room for the seat and the rest of the station.

Side trays and bait trays keep maggots, groundbait, bait tubs and small items within easy reach. When your bait is in the same place every time, rebaiting and feeding are quick, and you do not have to take your eyes off the float or the quivertip for longer than necessary.

Before buying, check that the tray fits the leg fitting on your seat. Many anglers use two side trays: one for hookbait and another for groundbait or small items. A bait tray on a support arm can also be placed right where your hand naturally falls while you fish.
