Why are rod bands worth carrying?

When feeder or match rods travel broken down, sections knock against each other and rings and tips suffer. A rod band holds sections tightly together and stops the line tangling.

Neoprene is soft and protects the blank, while silicone straps grip well even when wet. A band with a pocket also protects the hook and tip when you transport rods already made up.

Match band width to the rod: a narrow band is enough for tip sections, while a wider one holds the butt and reel seat area securely.

Keep a few spares in your bag, as they are easy to lose on the bank.
