Baiting tools let you put groundbait and loose feed precisely into your swim. In this group you will find catapults, pole cups and baiting scoops. The right tool depends on how far out you are feeding and what kind of rod or pole you are fishing with.
The catapult is a basic tool for the float angler. You use it to fire balls of groundbait, pellets, maggots or particles into the swim. Small, soft pouches suit loose feed, while larger and stiffer pouches are better for balls of groundbait. The strength of the elastic decides how far the bait will travel.
A pole cup is fitted to the tip of the pole. When the pole is shipped out over the swim, the bait is tipped in right on top of the hookbait. It is the most accurate way to feed when pole fishing and is widely used in match fishing.
Scoops and baiting spoons are for feeding close in, such as along the margin or next to a jetty. They are also useful when you want to lower groundbait in quietly without the splash of a catapult.
Practise the same movement with the same power each time, and your bait will land in the same spot cast after cast. Consistent feeding builds a swim that keeps fish there.
