Sand Eel & Heavy Saltwater Softbaits

How to fish a heavy sea softbait

Drop a heavy softbait to the bottom as the boat drifts and work it with long, slow lifts. The tail swims on both the rise and the fall, and the take often comes on the drop.

Choose weight for depth and drift speed. The line should stay as close to vertical as possible to keep the lure near the bottom. 300 g often works in 40 to 80 metres, with more needed in strong tide.

A pre-rigged lure is ready to fish straight away, and the soft body can be replaced when worn.

Light sandeel lures are fished slowly from the shore for sea trout.
