Sinking Minnows & Vibration Lures

This group has sinking minnows, sandeel-style pencils and vibration lures for fishing below the surface at different depths. Their weight carries them a long way, reaching fish along deeper drop-offs too. They suit sea trout, bass, pollock and mackerel.

How to fish a sinking sea lure

The advantage of a sinking lure is that you can control the depth by counting it down. Let it sink for a set time before you start winding, and the same cast can cover both the surface and deeper water.

A vibration lure shudders hard on a steady retrieve, and fish feel it through their lateral line even in coloured water. A sandeel pencil is slim and fast and is a favourite for sea trout on the Danish and Swedish coasts.

Choose weight for the wind and distance; 15-30 g covers most shorelines.

Vary your retrieve speed until you find the rhythm the fish want.
