A home-made rig is tailored exactly to your own fishing spot and target species. In this group you will find crimps, sleeves and beads as well as glow and attractor components for building sea rigs. The same parts can also be used to repair and modify ready-made rigs.
Heavy mono cannot be knotted reliably with standard knots, so loops and snoods on sea rigs are often secured with crimps. Beads protect knots and connections, act as stops and keep snoods in place on the main line. Match the crimp size to the line diameter so the connection holds under load.
Glow and attractor components make a rig more visible. In deep or murky water, a glowing bead or a brightly coloured attractor above the hook helps fish find the bait, and species such as cod often respond well to colour and light. Try different colours until you find what works on the day.
When you build your own rigs, you can adjust snood length, the number of hooks and the colours of the attractors to suit the spot and the day. Tie a few rigs at home and store them on a rig winder, so changing them is quick even in a cold wind on the boat.
