Transducers
The transducer is the heart of any fishfinder, sending sound pulses into the water and picking up the echoes. This section covers transducers plus poles and mounts for fitting them to the transom, a kayak or temporarily to a hire boat.

Start with compatibility: the connector and frequencies must match your display unit. A new transducer can add down or side imaging or greater depth capability to your existing unit.
The mounting method depends on the boat. A transom mount is the most common choice, while a through-hull transducer gives a clean picture at higher speeds.
A transducer pole comes into its own on hire boats, kayaks or when you fish from more than one boat. It clamps to the gunwale and lifts out easily for transport.
Fit the transducer where water flows past it smoothly without bubbles, and the picture will stay clear.
