Savotta Varjelus Plate Carrier

Savotta Varjelus Plate Carrier M05 is a well-designed, scalable, and modular plate carrier system designed for 25 x 30 cm (10 x 12 inch) SAPI-style armour plates and soft armour panels. Compatible with placards and various additional protection elements, the basic package includes a front plate bag, rear plate bag, cummerbund, and shoulder pads. Extensive accessory compatibility allows the system to be tailored to suit the intended use.

Varjelus is based on a pragmatic and functional design. The adjustable plate bags accommodate plates and panels of varying thicknesses, while the quickly adjustable, rigid cummerbund supports attached equipment. The vest circumference is adjustable between approximately 85 and 140 cm, allowing the fit to be changed quickly to accommodate, for example, different clothing layers.

The front plate bag is placard-compatible at three different attachment heights and works with both G-hooks and split-bar Side Release buckles. Three of the four rows of PALS webbing on the front continue all the way to the side seams. This provides a six-column-wide attachment surface with room for items such as a PTT device on either side of the carrier. A 10 x 25 cm loop Velcro surface on the chest provides space for patches and identification.

The exterior of the rear plate bag features full-size PALS webbing from side to side and from bottom to top, as well as a 10 x 25 cm loop Velcro surface for patches and identification. The integrated 58 cm drag handle stows away in its own compartment. The handle is deployed by pulling the visible tab at the top edge of the rear plate bag.

The shoulder straps of both plate bags feature hook Velcro on the underside and loop Velcro on the upper side. The 40 mm-wide webbing enables the use of various quick-release buckles and adapters, including Tubes and ROC solutions. The body-facing surfaces of the plate bags are covered with loop Velcro fabric. Six one-wrap Velcro straps attach to this surface and allow the plate bag tension to be adjusted to suit the thickness of the plates or panels used. The Velcro fabric also serves as an attachment surface for comfort pads.

The plate bags are designed for 25 x 30 cm plates, SAPI M ballistic plates, and corresponding soft armour panels. They also fit shooter?s cut plates. The bags are suitable for most ICW plate and NIJ IIIA panel combinations, as well as SA plates, provided the total thickness does not exceed approximately 35 mm.

The design offers several cable-routing options. One-wrap Velcro straps can be used to secure cables along the inner edges of the plate bags. The sides of the front plate bag feature two 50 mm-wide elastic loops for routing cables and keeping cable bundles tidy. Side tunnels in the rear plate bag allow cables to be routed from the lower edges of the cummerbund openings to the base of the shoulders.

The cummerbund is made from laser-cut LDPE sheet with PALS webbing sewn onto it. The loop Velcro on the body-facing side serves as an attachment surface for side armour bags. The skeletal structure promotes ventilation, while its rigidity supports attached equipment. The front ends are three PALS rows high and provide a sturdy attachment surface for tall pouches, radios, and other equipment.

The rear ends of the cummerbund are two PALS rows high. This positions them slightly higher on the rear plate bag and reduces unnecessary weight. The rear ends are inserted into the rear plate bag through flat webbing loops. Adjustment with elastic cords and cord locks routed on the outside allows the circumference to be changed quickly.

The structural shoulder pads feature 3D mesh on the body-facing side and loop Velcro fabric on top, preventing the pads from sliding along the shoulder straps. Elastic loops are suitable for routing hydration bladder tubes and cables. The combination of closed-cell foam and a 1 mm LDPE stiffener distributes the load and provides structural support for the pads. The padding and stiffener can be easily removed through the insertion opening for a lower profile or for use as unstructured shoulder pads.

500D Cordura fabric, polyester webbing?or polyamide webbing depending on the colour option?and LDPE stiffeners form a durable and structurally supportive system. The M05 colourway offers good NIR concealment properties. The product is manufactured in Finland and Estonia and carries a five-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects.
