Maxim Defense Roller Delayed Buffer System Carbine (RDB) - A roller-delayed blowback buffer system designed for 9mm AR platforms, converting the operation of a 9mm AR firearm to roller-delayed and bringing the benefits of 9mm roller-delayed systems to availability. This solution is exclusively intended for 9mm AR platforms and is not compatible with other calibers.
The RDB system reduces perceived recoil and improves operational smoothness, making the shooting rhythm more controlled and pleasant. Minimizing friction and balanced movement reduce wear and help maintain operational reliability in the long term. Reliability improves as the movement of masses is controlled throughout the cycle.
The system allows gas pressure to equalize before extraction, which smoothens cycling and reduces malfunctions compared to traditional 9mm blowback solutions. The RDB's guide rod and rollers direct movement so that the abrasive motion typically associated with the buffer is minimized, and the operation remains streamlined throughout the entire range of motion.
Installation note: The 9mm bolt assembly must have an open channel for the guide rod to function correctly during firing. In most 9mm bolt carriers, this means removing the pinned-in central mass. The central mass must be removable, and the bolt carrier group (BCG) must remain full-length without the central mass for the RDB to function correctly. The RDB is not full auto rated.
