Botnia Solutions Maxi Comp 5.56 5/8x24 PRS Compensator Gen1 Black is a large and highly effective muzzle brake designed for 5.56?7 mm calibres as well as PRS shooting, hunting and general range use. The Maxi design reduces recoil and improves rifle stability, making it suitable for smaller calibres as well when controlled shot behaviour is the goal. The black model features a Cerakote coating, and the 5/8x24 thread determines barrel compatibility.

Maxi is the large option in Botnia Solutions? Mini, Midi, Maxi and Mega range. All models are based on the same materials, technical design and performance principles, but the appropriate size is selected according to calibre, rifle weight and intended use. Mini is a compact and lightweight option for hunting rifles, AR platforms and lightweight setups. It is technically capable of handling large calibres, including .338, but is best suited to smaller cartridges where weight and size are critical. Midi provides a balanced combination of recoil control and compact dimensions for most rifles and calibres. Maxi is designed for strong recoil reduction and increased stability, while Mega is intended for the largest centre-fire cartridges and ELR setups without weight limitations.

The forward-mounted mass of the Maxi can improve rifle balance and reduce muzzle rise through inertial braking. In some PRS setups, this may allow internal chassis weights to be reduced, making the overall rifle lighter without compromising controllability. The design dampens barrel movement and vibrations, supporting repeatable shot-to-shot performance. At the same time, the reticle remains steadier and more visible during recoil, making it easier to spot impacts, maintain follow-through and fire fast follow-up shots.

Botnia Solutions? design avoids the excessive vertical forces caused by overly aggressive muzzle brakes. The aim is to prevent bipod hopping, barrel flex visible in slow-motion footage, stress on the scope mount, bedding structure and action screws, and reticle drop below the target. Rifles are designed to receive linear recoil forces rather than vertical stress, and controlled gas management keeps the system stable and consistent.

All Botnia Solutions muzzle brakes use a low blast angle directed toward the ground, reducing dust signature and improving shooter comfort. Controlled gas venting produces a smooth impulse and stable recoil behaviour. Long, directional channels create a tight and linear gas flow instead of the broad gas cones associated with conventional muzzle brakes. Upward-facing channels generate downward force without disruptive vibration or imbalance. The view through the riflescope remains as calm as possible during recoil, improving target tracking.

The muzzle brake body is manufactured using SLM 3D printing, after which the threads and internal bore are finished by CNC machining. This manufacturing method combines effective recoil management with precise tolerances. The channel angles reduce dust rising from the ground and help limit muzzle rise without creating an unnecessarily harsh pressure wave for the shooter?s ears and eyes.

The design does not feature dedicated top ports, as the PRS shooters involved in the development of the muzzle brake requested their removal. Carbon buildup in top holes can affect point of impact in a way that carbon buildup in side ports does not. The top-port-free design supports consistent zero retention in demanding PRS use.

The threads, shoulders and internal bore of the muzzle brake are finished in the same machining operation. The internal bore is finished with a reamer to achieve alignment as close as possible to 0% runout at the muzzle brake exit. Precise alignment supports safe bullet clearance and consistent performance.

This version is compatible with bullet diameters from 5.56 mm to 7 mm, covering the .223?.284 calibre range. Maximum bullet diameter is 7 mm (.284 inches), and the muzzle brake internal bore diameter is 8 mm (.314 inches). The Gen1 range also includes a 7.62?8.6 mm (.308?.338) version with a 10 mm (.400 inch) internal bore. It can also be used with smaller calibres, but the greater bullet clearance may reduce effectiveness by approximately 1?4%, depending on the cartridge. The range?s 9.5?10.6 mm (.375?.416) version has an internal bore of 11.5?12 mm (.452?.472 inches) and is designed for large-calibre magnum cartridges, where larger bullet diameter and gas volume require additional clearance for safety.

For removing carbon buildup from the Cerakote-coated model, Bore Tech C4 or another firearm carbon remover, such as Slip 2000 Carbon Killer or M-Pro 7 Cleaner, is recommended. These products are designed to remove carbon rather than mineral deposits and are suitable for Cerakote surfaces when used correctly, without corrosion risk. They can also be used in an ultrasonic cleaner. CLR cleaner must not be used on a Cerakote-coated muzzle brake, as its acidity may dull or damage the coating over time. CLR is suitable for uncoated stainless-steel versions, but the part must be thoroughly rinsed and oiled after cleaning.

Maxi Comp provides effective recoil management, a steadier sight picture and consistent shot behaviour. It is a well-founded choice for shooters who value rifle balance, controlled muzzle rise, faster impact spotting and precisely machined construction. The model is particularly suitable when the stability and control provided by a muzzle brake are more important than compact size.

Recommended use: recommended for 5.56?7 mm calibre rifles with a compatible 5/8x24 barrel thread, where recoil management, balance and sight-picture stability required for PRS or other precision-focused shooting are prioritised.
