The baitcasting reel is at its best when fishing for medium-sized fish, such as pike, trout, or salmon. There are reels available for both small and very large fish as well, but it is somewhat a matter of preference and habit whether to use a spinning reel in these extremes. However, it is true that using a baitcasting reel smoothly takes some practice, and a spinning reel is an easier option for a beginner angler.
Please note that the handedness of a baitcasting reel cannot be changed. Handedness indicates on which side of the reel the handle is located.
