It is made from a mixture of bamboo & polyester with a UPF 50 treatment. Thanks to these materials it is highly sweat absorbent, pulling moisture from your skin evaporating it or moving it to the next layers. This function keeps you dry. The fabric is woven so that it interlocks air and therefore this is a great first layer in cooler conditions, but at the same time it keeps you cool on hot summer days. The Tanatex anti-mosquito treatment is based on permethrin and it lasts for the expected life span of the garment. It prevents insect bites through the fabric by killing the insects that come into contact with the fabric.

INSECT PROOF by Tanatex

The fabric used in these shirts has been treated with the Insect Proof treatment by Tanatex Chemicals, which provides protection against both flying and crawling insects (e.g. mosquitoes, blackflies and ticks). The active substance is permethrin, which is impregnated into the fabric during manufacture. The effect of the treatment is therefore long-lasting, even more than 100 washes.

Permethrin is a synthetic chemical that is widely used as an insecticide and insect repellent around the world. It acts as a neurotoxin, affecting the membranes of the insect's nerve cells. A product treated with permethrin therefore does not repel insects; its effect is based on a "knockdown effect". When an insect lands on the garment, it is stunned or dies and is therefore unable to sting or bite. Permethrin is not known to harm most mammals or birds, but it is toxic to fish and cats. Permethrin is a pesticide recommended by the WHO. Permethrin-treated clothing has been widely used by, among others, the armed forces of various countries. It has also been used in sports, outdoor and fishing clothing, animal clothing and shelters, curtain fabrics and mattresses in tropical countries, and in tent floor fabrics.

Insect Proof is a product developed and marketed by the Dutch company Tanatex Chemicals. It complies with the EU Biocidal Products Regulation No 528/2012 and the requirements of Chapter XIII, Article 58 concerning "treated articles". The active substance is permethrin CAS 52645-53-1. Permethrin may cause skin irritation.
