A part made by cold forging is stiffer and lighter than a cast one because its molecular structure is different. Cold forging is used at Shimano factories, for example, in the manufacture of reel gears and spools.
S A-RB bearing - S A-RB bearings are made of stainless steel, whose properties have been improved by a combination of chemical treatment and heat treatment. The surface of the A-RB bearing is harder than a normal bearing, so its rolling resistance is lower. Another advantage of this bearing type is significantly improved corrosion resistance (about ten times compared to a steel bearing). Additionally, the S-type bearing is sealed, meaning both ends of the bearing have a metal or rubber shield that prevents dirt and impurities from entering the bearing.
