More information about crayfishing:
The crayfishing season starts on July 21 at 12 noon and ends on the last day of October.
Although the crayfish does not have a minimum size (if the fishing area has not specified one), the normal catch length of the crayfish is about 10 cm. The crayfish prefers good quality warm freshwater with sufficient oxygen and little suspended matter. The crayfish inhabits the shoreline area, usually up to a depth of 5 meters. The bottom should have plenty of hiding places (rocks) or a sandy bottom where it can dig a burrow. A good trap is one that is easy for the crayfish to enter but difficult to find its way out. If the trap is off the bottom, the crayfish will try to reach the bait by the shortest route from below, rather than through the openings at the ends of the trap. The best bait for crayfish is fresh light-fleshed fish. If the crayfish manage to eat the bait completely, the trap's catching efficiency ceases. When using a bait box that the crayfish cannot easily access, the trap will catch for a longer time. Generally, crayfish come out of their burrows at night, but on cloudy days and shady shores, they may come out in the afternoon. If you change the fishing waters, the crayfish traps should be disinfected to prevent the spread of crayfish plague. Ahti net crayfish traps are disinfected by drying them in a sauna at about 60 degrees Celsius for 5 hours or in sunlight. Ahti plastic crayfish traps can also be disinfected by boiling for 10 minutes.
