MotorGuide Xi3 55lb SW 60" with accessory package and a very long-lasting MaxLi Marine 12V 60Ah lithium battery, but now also available with MaxLi 12V 80Ah and 12V 100Ah batteries
MotorGuide Xi3 55lb SW 60" 12V GPS - MotorGuide Xi3 bow electric motors are the most popular bow electric motors in Finland and these are the best-selling machines of all time. The Xi3 bow motor offers the best price-quality ratio available on the market. The MotorGuide Xi3's anchor lock is extremely accurate and the remote control is very user-friendly. With two GPS antennas, the Motor Guide PinPoint also keeps your boat in the correct position and prevents it from spinning when using the anchor lock, unlike competing models. The GPS technology is controlled via a wireless remote that includes the following functions: increase speed, decrease speed, course lock, save anchor/route to memory, anchor lock, cruise control, propeller on/off, turn left, turn right, manual control, repeat route. Thanks to the two GPS antennas, you can also perform "step-by-step" movement, meaning when you press the remote control once to the right, the bow electric motor moves your boat 1.5m to the right. If you press ten times to the right, your boat moves 15m to the right and stays in that spot with the anchor lock. This is a very effective function especially for jig fishermen who are working larger shallows, rocky areas, or the edge of a deep spot.
- One of the most accurate anchor locks on the market
- Small, handy remote control with all the important functions
- Very convenient Step-by-Step function for movement.
NMEA2000 network connectivity - all MotorGuide bow electric motors are equipped with NMEA2000 connectivity, allowing them to communicate with Lowrance touch screen displays. To connect the devices, you need a NMEA2000 Starter Kit and a MotorGuide Pinpoint Gateway data cable. After this, you can control the bow motor from the Lowrance display and create routes for the bow motor or command it to stay in anchor lock or move from one anchor point to another.
- Connectable with Lowrance displays, control, route, and stay in place with anchor lock
- You can add routes and waypoints to the display's memory, name them for easy identification, and your recordings will remain saved
FW or SW? - In Finland, it doesn't matter much whether you choose a freshwater (FW) or saltwater (SW) model, because our sea water is brackish, meaning in the Gulf of Finland it's less than 3g/kg and in the Bay of Bothnia 2g/kg. In the Danish Straits, the salinity is 20g/kg and on the Atlantic side already 35g/kg. Beyond the Danish Straits, you should always use the SW model in the sea area, but in Finland, it doesn't matter much. What you must always remember is that the SW model's lower unit painting is tougher and withstands more knocks, and that the MotorGuide SW model is always 60" long and the FW is generally 54" long.
- SW model shaft length 60" / 152cm and FW model shaft length 54" / 137cm. FW 24V model is also available in 60" length with sonar
- SW model's bow electric motor painting is more durable than the FW model
- In Finland, the warranty remains even if you use the FW model in sea water
MotorGuide Xi3 bow electric motors have a 2-year manufacturer's warranty for material and manufacturing defects
12V or 24V model? - The general rule of thumb is that if the boat package can be transported on a trailer without brakes, a 12V system is sufficient. If the boat package cannot be transported on a trailer without brakes, the boat package is heavy enough that a 24V model should always be acquired. If the fisherman is a "fair-weather" fisherman, a 12V 55lb may also suffice, but we always recommend sizing the bow motor for the worst possible weather conditions. The 24V model is just one 24V lithium battery, so it shouldn't be feared. The 24V model operates at lower RPMs, so it consumes less battery and wears the machine less.
- 12V model for boat packages that can be transported on trailers without brakes and are under approx. 5.5m.
- 24V model for boat packages that are transported on trailers with brakes and are more than 5m.
- We recommend always connecting an intermediate charger between the bow motor battery and the starter battery, so that the excess electricity charged by the outboard motor is directed to the bow motor battery. For this, for example, the Victron Orion is the right intermediate charger.
With or without an accessory package? All bow motors are available with an accessory package and almost always the bow motor is sold with an accessory package because when acquiring them at the same time, all the important parts are cheaper. The accessory package includes the following products: a metal quick-release bracket (MotorGuide or Patriot), a 60A waterproof automatic circuit breaker, and a waterproof power plug (female and male part). The 60A automatic circuit breaker is the most important product in the accessory package because it protects your bow electric motor from damage if there is a problem with your battery. The quick-release bracket allows you to remove the bow electric motor from the boat when you don't need it or take it inside for protection or for trailering in the car. The quick-release bracket also has a place for a lock, so you can lock your bow electric motor to the boat. Thanks to the power connectors, it's easy to connect your bow electric motor to the power and no wires run, for example, between the bow locker lid.
- We recommend considering installing an aluminum mounting plate under the quick-release bracket. This makes installation easier and with the side-mounted mounting plate, you can attach the bow electric motor to the side of the boat, making it easier to access the boat from the bow. When the bow electric motor is in the rest position, its shaft does not bend into the boat when it is mounted flush with the side.
