MotorGuide Xi3 bow-mount trolling motors are the most popular bow-mount trolling motors in Finland and the best-selling motors of all time. The Xi3 offers the best price-quality ratio available on the market. The GPS anchor of the MotorGuide Xi3 is extremely accurate and the remote control is very easy to use. With two GPS antennas, MotorGuide Pinpoint also keeps your boat in the correct position and does not let it spin when the GPS anchor is in use, unlike competing models. The GPS technology is controlled with a wireless remote that includes the following functions: increase speed, decrease speed, course lock, save anchor/route to memory, GPS anchor, cruise control, propeller on/off, turn left, turn right, manual steering, replay route. Thanks to the two GPS antennas, you can also use "step-by-step" movement: when you press right on the remote once, the trolling motor moves your boat 1.5 m to the right. If you press right ten times, your boat moves 15 m to the right and stays there on GPS anchor. This is a very effective function especially for jig anglers working larger shallows, rocky areas or the edge of a deep spot.

  • One of the most accurate GPS anchors on the market
  • Small, handy remote control with all the most important functions
  • Very convenient Step-by-Step function for moving

NMEA2000 network connectivity - all MotorGuide bow-mount trolling motors are equipped with NMEA2000 connectivity, allowing them to communicate with Lowrance touchscreen displays. To connect the devices, you need an NMEA2000 Starter Kit and a MotorGuide Pinpoint Gateway data cable. After this, you can control the trolling motor from the Lowrance display, create routes for it, or command it to stay on GPS anchor or move from one anchor point to another.

  • Connectable with Lowrance displays: steer, route and stay in place on GPS anchor
  • You can save routes and waypoints to the display's memory and name them for easy identification, and your recordings stay saved

FW or SW? - In Finland, it does not matter much whether you choose a freshwater (FW) or saltwater (SW) model, because our sea water is brackish: less than 3 g/kg in the Gulf of Finland and 2 g/kg in the Bothnian Bay. In the Danish Straits, the salinity is 20 g/kg and on the Atlantic side as much as 35 g/kg. From the Danish Straits onwards, you should always use the SW model at sea, but in Finland it does not make much difference. What you must always remember is that the lower unit paint of the SW model is harder and withstands more knocks, and that the MotorGuide SW model is always 60" long while the FW is generally 54" long.

  • SW model shaft length 60" / 152 cm and FW model shaft length 54" / 137 cm. The FW 24V model is also available in 60" length and with a transducer
  • The paint of the SW model is more durable than that of the FW model
  • In Finland, the warranty remains valid even if you use the FW model in sea water
MotorGuide Xi3 bow-mount trolling motors have a 2-year manufacturer's warranty for material and manufacturing defects

12V or 24V model? - The general rule of thumb is that if the boat package is transported on an unbraked trailer, a 12V system is sufficient. If the boat package does not travel on an unbraked trailer, it is so heavy that a 24V model should always be chosen. For a "fair-weather" angler, a 12V 55lb may also be enough, but we always recommend sizing the trolling motor for the worst possible weather. A 24V model only needs one 24V lithium battery, so there is no reason to shy away from it. The 24V model runs at lower RPM, so it uses less battery and causes less wear on the motor.

  • 12V model for boat packages that travel on an unbraked trailer and are under approx. 5.5 m.
  • 24V model for boat packages that travel on braked trailers and are longer than 5 m.
  • We recommend always connecting a DC-DC charger between the trolling motor battery and the starter battery, so that surplus power charged by the outboard motor is directed to the trolling motor battery. The Victron Orion, for example, is the right DC-DC charger for this.

With or without an accessory package? All bow-mount trolling motors are available with an accessory package, and they are almost always sold with one, because buying them at the same time gets you all the important parts at a lower price. The accessory package includes: a metal quick-release mount (MotorGuide or Patriot), a 60A waterproof automatic circuit breaker and a waterproof power plug (female and male part). The 60A circuit breaker is the most important item in the package, because it protects your trolling motor from damage if there is a problem with your battery. The quick-release mount lets you lift the trolling motor off the boat when you do not need it, or take it inside or into the car for protection while trailering. The quick-release mount also has a place for a lock, so you can lock your trolling motor to the boat. Thanks to the power connectors, it is easy to connect the trolling motor to power and no cables run, for example, through the bow locker lid.

  • We recommend considering an aluminium mounting plate under the quick-release mount. It makes installation easier, and with a side-mount plate you can attach the trolling motor to the side of the boat, making it easier to board the boat from the bow. When the trolling motor is in the stowed position, its shaft does not fold into the boat when it is mounted along the gunwale.
