Scope mounts are very popular among Finnish hunters, especially the domestic Optilock rings and bases manufactured by Sako. These mounts consist of two parts: the base and the ring. The base is always chosen according to the firearm. For example, Tikka rifles have a 17 mm mounting rail for the scope mount, whereas Sako rifles have Sako's characteristic "dovetail rail". Optilock bases are available for both, and the corresponding ring part is selected according to the scope being used. Rings are available in diameters of 1'' (25.4 mm), 30 mm, 36 mm, and 40 mm. Nowadays, most scopes on the market have a 30 mm tube, making the 30 mm ring the most popular. Additionally, rings are available in four different heights. The correct height depends on the thickness of the rifle barrel and the size of the objective lens of the scope.
