Pulsar Thermion 3 LRF XT60 is the high-resolution thermal riflescope of the Thermion 3 series, combining a 1280x1024 pixel HD thermal sensor, a 60 mm F1.0 objective, 2-24x magnification, a 1200 m laser rangefinder integrated into the body and ballistic calculation. The scope is built in a metal 30 mm body resembling a traditional riflescope, so it can be mounted in standard 30 mm scope rings.
The key feature of the XT60 is its 1280x1024 pixel thermal sensor with 12 µm pixel pitch. It offers considerably more pixels than the 640x480 sensor of the XR60 and is the high-resolution option in Pulsar's current Thermion range. The high resolution helps you see the shape of the target and smaller details, especially in situations where identifying the target matters more than maximum magnification.
The manufacturer's stated sensor NETD is under 35 mK and the system NETD under 20 mK. System-level thermal sensitivity helps preserve detail when the temperature differences between the target and its surroundings are small. The 50 Hz frame rate makes following moving targets smooth.
The XT60 uses a 60 mm F1.0 objective that efficiently gathers thermal radiation onto the sensor. Base magnification is 2x and the magnification range 2-24x. The low base magnification combined with the high sensor resolution provides a very wide field of view: according to the manufacturer 14.6 degrees, or 25.7 metres at 100 metres.
The wide field of view is one of the XT60's most significant practical advantages. It makes it easier to find the target in the thermal image, follow a moving animal and get an overview of the surroundings in the forest and in varied terrain. Compared to the XR60, the field of view of the XT60 is about twice as wide, which makes it well suited to situations where targets can appear quickly in different parts of the view.
Magnification on the Thermion 3 is adjusted with a rotating ring like on a traditional riflescope. The focus control is located in the middle of the body. The controls are positioned so that the most important functions can be used from the aiming position, even in the dark and with gloves on.
The manufacturer's stated detection range for a heat source is up to 2950 metres for a standard-size target. Detection range describes detecting a heat source in ideal conditions and is not the same as identification or shooting distance.
The Thermion 3's 1200 m laser rangefinder is integrated directly into the scope body. It is not located in front of the thermal objective, so the optical path of the F1.0 objective remains unobstructed. The manufacturer's stated measuring accuracy is +/- 1 metre. Distance can be measured with a single measurement, in continuous SCAN mode or with the THD function, which shows the true horizontal distance.
The rangefinder is complemented by ballistic calculation. In the Stream Vision Ballistics app you can create a ballistic profile for your rifle and cartridge and transfer it to the scope. Based on the measured distance, the device can show the calculated point of aim in the sight picture, making it easier to estimate the corrections needed at different distances.
The scope can store 10 zeroing profiles, each supporting several zeroing distances. This allows settings for different rifles, calibres or cartridges to be stored in the same device. In addition, 10 electronic reticles are available.
Some of the reticles scale with magnification. Their proportions change with magnification on a similar principle to a first focal plane reticle in a conventional riflescope. This makes using the reticle scales more consistent across different magnifications.
For zeroing, One Shot Zero, magnified Zoom Zero and Freeze Zero are available. With Freeze Zero the sight picture can be frozen during adjustment, so the rifle does not need to stay completely still during the entire zeroing procedure.
The thermal image can be adjusted with Normal, High and Ultra-High sensitivity levels. Ultra-High is intended especially for situations where temperature differences are small, for example due to humidity, fog, rain or cold. A smoothing filter can be used to reduce noise in the thermal image.
The XT60 has nine colour palettes: White Hot, Black Hot, Green, Red Hot, Red Monochrome, Rainbow, Ultramarine, Violet and Sepia. This lets you choose how the thermal image is presented according to the environment, the target and personal preference.
Two Picture-in-Picture modes are available. In the rectangular PiP view, the magnified area and the rest of the thermal image can be seen at the same time. The circular PiP magnifies the area around the point of aim while keeping the wide field of view around it.
The image is shown on a 2560x2560 pixel AMOLED display. The 65 mm eye relief increases comfort and leaves more safety distance between the eye and the scope. The manufacturer states that the XT60 withstands recoil energy of up to 6000 joules.
The XT60 has 128 GB of internal memory. Videos and photos can be recorded at 1440x1080 pixel resolution. Recoil-activated video recording allows the shot to be recorded automatically without starting the recording before every shot.
With the Stream Vision 2 app, the image from the scope can be streamed to a mobile device, recordings managed and the software updated. The Stream Vision Ballistics app is used to create ballistic profiles and transfer them to the scope. Wireless connections include Bluetooth and 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
The XT60 is powered by an internal battery and a replaceable APS5 4900 mAh battery. The manufacturer's technical data states an operating time of about 8.5 hours at 22 °C. The external APS5 can be swapped for a charged spare battery during use, and the scope can also be powered from a USB Type-C Power Delivery power source.
The metal body is IP67 protected against dust and water. The manufacturer's stated operating temperature range is -25...+50 °C. The scope measures approximately 443 x 96 x 76 mm and weighs about 1.3 kg.
The Thermion 3 LRF XT60 is the right choice especially when the most important features are high image resolution, a wide field of view and distinguishing target details. The 2x base magnification and 25.7 m field of view at 100 m make it well suited to forests and varied terrain, while the 24x maximum magnification also allows closer inspection of more distant targets. The XR60 is the better choice when the need clearly emphasises higher magnification and long observation distances.
