Bolle MY6 Emerald is a ballistic laser safety eyewear system featuring a one-piece Emerald ProLaser mono lens that protects the eyes against laser radiation at 400, 694 and 1064 nm, as well as reflections of these wavelengths. The model is designed for military use, including target designation, fire control, night operations, training systems, shooting, defence equipment maintenance and other critical tasks. The OD4-rated green lens attenuates laser radiation at the specified wavelengths by a factor of 10,000.

The Emerald ProLaser lens protects against longer-wavelength laser light with lower frequency and energy. The lens has a visible light transmission of 50%. The base-7 curved mono lens also provides side protection, and the lens can be replaced with several separately available lens tints according to operational needs. A non-slip nose bridge helps keep the eyewear securely in place.

The STANAG 2920 and MIL-PRF-32432A certified construction protects against flying particles and mechanical hazards in addition to laser radiation. The lens features an anti-fog AF coating and an anti-scratch AS coating. Frame markings include EN166 FT, CE, UKCA, STANAG 2920 (218.3 m/s), MIL-PRF-32432A, ANSI+CSA Z94.3 and AS/NZS1337.1 BMP549707.

The slim, comfortable temples have been developed for use with communication hearing protectors and ballistic helmets. Compatible hearing protectors include, for example, all Gel versions in the Sordin Supreme hearing protector range. The temples and lens together weigh 37 g. The construction uses nylon, TPR and polycarbonate, and the temples are black.

The laser marking on the lens is 400/694/1064 nm - OD4, Z87+ U6 SX. 400 nm corresponds to blue or violet laser light and covers laser radiation produced by certain near-UV system types. It is also a common wavelength for marking and measurement lasers. 694 nm corresponds to the red light of ruby lasers and, in particular, the deep-red pulsed lasers found in older military equipment.

1064 nm is the invisible wavelength of the Nd:YAG laser, commonly used in modern military laser systems, particularly pulsed lasers, in the infrared and near-infrared ranges. It is also used in continuous-wave industrial and research laser applications. Applications include rangefinders, rifle scopes, sniper equipment, armoured vehicles, artillery and aircraft, as well as target designation, LIDAR-type systems, target identification and ballistic calculation. Invisible 1064 nm radiation does not trigger the eye's blink reflex, yet the eye lens may focus it onto the retina. Energy concentrated on a small area may cause permanent retinal damage within microseconds without the user noticing the radiation. This is why protection against this wavelength and its reflections is important.

OD4, or Optical Density 4, filters 99.99% of the specified laser radiation. The lens transmits 0.01% of laser radiation, providing 10,000-fold attenuation. Protection applies to the 400, 694 and 1064 nm wavelengths marked on the product. The eyewear is not suitable for driving in traffic.

STANAG 2920 is a NATO-defined ballistic protection test method used to test Bolle Safety BSSI protective eyewear. In the test, each lens is impacted by a steel cylinder representing a .22-calibre projectile. Testing is carried out at speeds of up to 275 m/s, or 990 km/h. The STANAG 2920 standard is followed in all NATO countries.

The MY6 name is based on the clock-direction expression used in tactical, military and law enforcement communications. The term "My Six" refers to the user's rear, meaning the area the user cannot see and which may be exposed to threats. The name describes the protective role of the equipment against threats that are also difficult to detect.

The eyewear provides combined laser, impact and mechanical protection in a lightweight construction compatible with other equipment. Interchangeable lenses, anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings, and side protection make this model a versatile choice for tasks where eye protection against laser radiation and flying particles is important.

Recommended use: designed for military, law enforcement, training, shooting and defence equipment maintenance tasks where exposure to 400, 694 or 1064 nm laser radiation, its reflections or mechanical hazards may occur. The suitability of the protection must be verified according to the wavelength and power of the laser in use.
