Whiting Spey Cape Silver Grade rooster capes feature feathers bred specifically for tying Spey flies. These feathers have very long barbs, which create a long and lively hackle for Spey flies. The feathers closely resemble the hard-to-find heron feathers traditionally used for Spey fly hackling.
Whiting Spey Cape Silver Grade also provides lively hackling for various shrimp patterns, the most famous of which is probably the sea trout fly Pattegrisen. Traditional salmon flies, such as the General Practitioner, can also be given a very lively appearance by replacing the traditional rooster hackling with Whiting's Spey hackles.
Whiting Spey Cape Silver Grade capes have more feathers and longer hackle barbs than the Bronze Grade series capes.
