Guideline Coastal Classic WF Fast Intermediate is an intermediate fly line for coastal fly fishing, an updated version of the original Coastal model that keeps the familiar core characteristics but brings fine-tuned improvements. It flies cleanly through the air and carries far, and the easy-casting taper makes the line manageable for all skill levels. The head has a density-compensated sinking profile that sinks evenly without sagging along the entire head, which improves contact with the fly. The low-stretch core (6% stretch) enhances feel and hooking ability even on long casts, and the new coating is supple in the cold and has very low memory to avoid tangles. The Coastal Classic series is available in both Slow Intermediate and Fast Intermediate densities; this product is Fast Intermediate.
The taper design combines control and power: a 2.0 m (6.5 ft) rear taper makes it possible to carry the line in the air even with long line lengths, or to make quick delivery casts while the rear taper is still inside the rod guides. A level belly transfers energy efficiently, and a long front taper softens the presentation but can still turn over larger flies. The new coating compound makes the line supple and effortless to handle, and thanks to the low memory the line releases easily without tangles.
In the updated model the rear taper has been extended by approx. +1.0 m (3.3 ft) compared to the previous version, so the total length of the rear taper is now approx. 3.0 m (9.8 ft). This makes the line more stable when carrying longer lengths, and presentation improves especially on long casts. If you like to carry the whole head or even handle a little more line than the head length, choose a #6 line for a #6 rod. If you prefer quick loading and a quick delivery, a #7 line on a #6 rod gives a more direct load with a shorter line length outside the rod tip; the choice also depends on your personal preferences and rod model.
The head length of Coastal Classic is 11.4 m (37.4 ft), and the even sinking keeps the whole head straight without sag, which improves feel and hooking ability. Coastal species that suit the properties of this line include, for example, sea trout, sea bass and striper.
