The materials used include multi-fiber constructions and polymer coatings that retain their properties even after prolonged use in both fresh and saltwater.
Rio GameChanger refers to Rio's line series designed for two-handed rods. GameChanger is a Skagit head, meaning a shooting head, which anglers need to pair with a backing line, running line, interchangeable tip, and leader. The choice of the shooting head, i.e., GameChanger, and the interchangeable tip depends on the rod being used.
When selecting the right weight GameChanger line and interchangeable tip, consider the rod's recommended weight and your casting style. If your casting style is the so-called "Scandi" style, a traditional Nordic way of casting a shooting head with a lower cast, then the combined weight of the shooting head and interchangeable tip should match or slightly exceed the rod's line recommendation. For example, for a two-handed fly rod with a length of 14' and a line recommendation of about 40g, you could use a GameChanger 500gr / 32g head and a 9-11g interchangeable tip. The interchangeable tip can be from any brand, as they can be mixed and matched.
Regarding sink rates, choose the GameChanger based on your fishing style, fishing spot, and prevailing water level. Also, remember that in a strong current, an unweighted large tube fly will not sink as quickly as a traditional small hook fly fished in a slow current.
Rio Products manufactures all its lines in the United States, in the state of Idaho, specifically in the city of Idaho Falls. The lines are designed and tested locally, enabling rapid product development and quality control.
The company was founded in the early 1990s and has grown to become one of the world's most respected fly line manufacturers. Rio is now part of the Far Bank Enterprises group, along with Sage rods and Redington.
