Kahles was founded in 1898 in Vienna, Austria, and is one of the world's oldest still-operating optics manufacturers. The company was founded by Karl Robert Kahles and was a pioneer in developing the first combined riflescopes and internal adjustment mechanisms. Today, all Kahles riflescopes are manufactured in Austria, under the ownership of the Swarovski Optik group and in close collaboration with it. The manufacturing combines traditional craftsmanship, Swiss-Austrian engineering expertise, and modern CNC technology. Kahles is now particularly known for its riflescopes for precision shooting, PRS competitions, and law enforcement, where optical quality, mechanical reliability, and user ergonomics are top-notch.
In PRS (Precision Rifle Series) shooting, a riflescope is required to be mechanically extremely precise, offer repeatable zeroing, long eye relief, usually a reticle placed on the first focal plane (FFP), and a reliable click mechanism. Kahles models, such as the K525i 5–25x56, meet these requirements excellently. They also offer PRS shooters left/right-handed windage and elevation adjustments, a quick zoom lever, and the widely used SKMR reticle. Competitive shooters also appreciate Kahles' top-notch lens contrast and illuminated reticle, which works even in bright sunlight.
Most of Kahles' tactical and PRS-class riflescopes (e.g., K525i, K318i, K624i) are already delivered with precision elevation turrets, including features like Zero Stop. In some hunting-class models (e.g., the Helia series), it is possible to add a Ballistic Drop Compensation (BDC) turret afterward, depending on the model. The elevation turret allows quick and precise adjustments for different shooting distances without reticle changes or re-evaluating the aiming point – particularly useful in long-range shooting and PRS disciplines. The Helia series turret installation can be done at home.
