Vertical Ice-Fishing Lures
Vertical jigging is usually the easiest and quite a reliable way to start ice fishing. You can bait the hook of the vertical jig with a fly or a bloodworm larva. If you wish, you can attach a mormyshka or a colored hook to the end of the line behind the vertical jig.

Vertical jigging is well-suited for beginners
Vertical jigging is a traditional and often the easiest choice of jigging for beginners. Of course, it is also favored by more experienced anglers. Vertical jigging is the most commonly used lure type in jigging, to which a hook is attached in various ways. Vertical jigs have different swimming actions: vibrating, sliding, and fast straight-falling jigs. One of the most popular types of vertical jigs is the so-called sliding jig, where the line runs through the jig's attachment pins, so the line does not need to be cut into a separate leader.
Vertical jigging is done near the bottom. The jig is vibrated with small movements or occasionally lifted more briskly, depending on the jig's swimming action. A regular jigging rod or a fork rod is suitable as a rod for vertical jigging. A line of 0.18-0.22 mm is well-suited, and it is good to have about 25 meters of it on the reel.
There is no single "best" jig, but the angler should be able to choose the jig that best suits the water body and use it in a way that appeals to the fish swimming under the ice at that moment. When comparing different jigs, it is also worth remembering the differences between water bodies - for example, whether it is a clear or murkier lake. Additionally, one jig works better for small perch, another for large ones, one jig works best in deep water, another in shallow areas. Color can also matter. Colored jigs are used, for example, for catching char and zander. A wise angler equips themselves with a variety of jigs, from which they can choose the most suitable one for each situation.
