And for everyone's information: don't forget Räsänen in winter fishing. This very lure works for pike and burbot!
The history of Räsänen originates from the northern salmon rivers. A salmon fisherman cut a piece from the edge of a copper coffee pot, from which he forged a spoon lure for himself in the wilderness. Soon enough, the man was at the riverbank tiring out salmon. Salmonids were caught with a seven-centimeter spoon along the northern waters, including the Oulu, Kemi, and Tornio rivers. The story goes that in the early 1900s, Jouni F. Helander from Utsjoki eventually brought it to Rovaniemi to be made by a watchmaker. The shape and scale pattern of Räsänen were created over a hundred years ago – the same shape that is in every individual Räsänen today. When it was first dipped into the clear salmon waters of the Teno, a legend was born. You see, on the very first fishing evening, it produced such a salmon catch that the other village fishermen began to eagerly want a similar catching machine for themselves. Larger and smaller models of the spoon were crafted, which spread with fishermen all over Finland. It wasn't long before Räsänen was successfully used to fish pike, perch, and zander. Today, we in Kuusamo still adhere to the same Räsänen shapes.
