Hareline UV2 Select Bucktail

Bucktail (deer tail) is one of the most used materials in fly tying. However, it is one of the most underrated materials. Many people think that bucktail is stiff, lifeless hair in the stream, which makes it difficult to tie pretty flies. The reality is quite different. Once wet, the hair becomes very lively while maintaining its shape. You don't need to use a lot of hair, which preserves the fly's delicacy and translucency, and it fishes well. Only in recent years has bucktail begun to be appreciated again in all kinds of fly tying due to its good properties. 

Bucktail can be used in salmon flies, tube flies, trout streamers, pike flies, and saltwater flies. If you want a specific type of bucktail (long, curly, soft, sturdy), mention it in the order message field or tell us what type of flies you intend to use the material for.  

These tails have undergone Spirit River's UV2 dyeing, which enhances the materials' reflectivity of ultraviolet rays and visibility to fish. The two-part UVF+UVR dyeing affects as follows

• The UVF process, or UV Fluorescence, makes the materials fluorescent. This phenomenon is especially noticeable in bright colors, even to the human eye. 
• The UVR process, or UV Reflectance, enhances the materials' ability to reflect UV rays, which are invisible to the human eye. This feature helps, for example, birds and insects to find different targets in nature.
