The choice between a 12V and 24V bow electric motor depends primarily on the size, weight, and intended use of your boat.
12V (one battery): Recommended for small and medium-sized boats (under 5.5 m) and light use, such as on sheltered lakes or in calm weather. Suitable for boats with outboard motors up to 90hp.
24V (one lithium battery or two lead-acid batteries): Provides more power and longer runtime. Recommended for boats between 5 and 6.5 meters, especially in current waters, windy conditions, or very active fishing. Commonly used in boats with outboard motors in the 70-250hp range.
The correct shaft length is crucial for the motor's performance. A shaft that is too short will surface in waves, and a shaft that is too long may easily hit the bottom or complicate transport.
If you usually fish in calm weather and sheltered locations, a shorter shaft will suffice, whereas if you fish for example sea trout in windy conditions on the Baltic Sea, a longer shaft is recommended.
Minn Kota is one of the world's most well-known bow electric motor brands and has been a pioneer in the development of electric bow motors for nearly a century. The brand was founded in 1934 in the United States, and its name comes from the words Minnesota and North Dakota, where the first products were developed.
All Minn Kota motors are still manufactured in the United States, in Mankato, Minnesota, ensuring high quality and continuous product development. Minn Kota is now part of the Johnson Outdoors group, along with brands such as Humminbird and Cannon.
